About this place
At Bistro TOM, lunch can be a pleasure before you have even chosen your main course. Diners who have visited several times recall looking forward to the carefully prepared starter selection, and to a potage that varied from one visit to the next. One guest who chose swordfish for the main course enjoyed two different toppings—herbs and breadcrumbs on one part, cheese on another—and found that adding tomato sauce brought a welcome tang and changed the flavour. The weekend-only lunch brings together starters, salad and potage, a choice of fish or meat, and coffee or tea afterwards; deciding between the two mains is part of the appeal.
The à la carte menu also includes house-smoked salmon and herb-roasted lamb. One diner described the pastry around a pie dish as buttery and faintly sweet, and said the duck breast was neither greasy nor dry. On another occasion, a guest enjoyed smoked salmon, sea bream with lemon-butter sauce and Basque cheesecake, suggesting the sort of evening meal that can be savoured at an unhurried pace.
The dining room is small and quiet, and a glass of wine—or a choice from the broader wine selection—can accompany the meal. Reservations are available for both lunch and dinner, with advance booking recommended for dinner.
